More San Jose Silliness: Preserving the Dancing Pig

The Dancing Pig
September 29,  2005

The above link will tell you that a prominent San Jose monument of considerable glory (as these things go in San Jose) is being preserved.  Stephen's Sausage (a fine sausage it was) was sold to another local company which will preserve the sausage (which has been made since the early 1950s or before).  History San Jose will preserve the neon sign, which I used to view every time I took the train.  The mascot is a dancing (or perhaps fleeing) pig in bright yellow neon.

Hopefully it will soon be errected in a new location and  will resume it's dance.  Until then, you can look at a flash animation of the pig in all it's glory at:

I believe that I would be at a loss to explain to a non-local why this silly sign is full of nostalgia and other primitive emotions for me.  If after seeing it, you want to look at me sideways, I will understand ;-)
